Sassuolo
Sassuolo’s Swift Return to Serie A
“Sassuolo’s stint in Serie B was short-lived; they swiftly claimed the league title, securing their return to Serie A after just one season.
Defensive Foundations for the Neroverdi
The “Neroverdi” immediately demonstrated a clear defensive strategy, conceding only a single goal across four pre-season friendlies: a 5-0 victory against Real Vicenza, a 3-0 win over Trento, a goalless draw with Empoli, and a 1-1 stalemate against Brest.
Squad Strength and Reinforcements
The home side boasts a rather capable squad, one that could realistically target a mid-table finish even without significant reinforcements. However, the management opted to invest further, bringing in Ismael Kone from Marseille on loan. Additionally, they completed two permanent transfers from Venezia, acquiring Jay Idzes and Fali Candé.
Successful Start to the Official Season
Fabio Grosso’s charges have already played one official match this season, a Coppa Italia fixture where they secured a 1-0 victory over Catanzaro.
Team Absences for Sassuolo
The Italian coach has not included Schjelderup and Thorstvedt in the squad for this upcoming fixture.

Napoli
Napoli’s Title-Winning Campaign
“Napoli ultimately clinched the league title last season, battling with Inter right up until the final matchday.
Mixed Pre-season Performances
The Neapolitans’ pre-season campaign was somewhat concerning, starting with a 0-2 defeat to Arezzo. While they then secured a 2-1 victory over Catanzaro, they immediately suffered another loss, this time 1-2 to Brest. Antonio Conte’s squad continued to surprise, later drawing 1-1 with Casertana. Significant criticism was directed at the Italian manager, prompting an immediate response in the form of three consecutive victories: 3-2 against Girona, 4-0 over Sorrento Calcio, and 2-1 against Olympiacos.
Strategic Summer Transfers
The visitors have made some strong additions this summer: Kevin De Bruyne (from Manchester City), Noah Lang (PSV), Vanja Milinkovic-Savic (Torino), Lorenzo Lucca (Udinese), and Miguel Gutierrez (Girona). Concurrently, they managed to generate nearly 100 million euros from the sales of two key players – Victor Osimhen (to Galatasaray) and Giacomo Raspadori (to Atletico Madrid).
Key Absences for Napoli
Conte will be without Lukaku, whose role is expected to be filled by Lucca, as well as Gutierrez.

Match Prediction: Sassuolo to Challenge Napoli
In my opinion, the bookmakers might be slightly underestimating Sassuolo. After securing promotion from Serie B, they’ve had an excellent pre-season and have already won their first official fixture. In contrast, Napoli’s pre-season was quite tumultuous. One only needs to recall their defeats to Arezzo and Brest, and the draw against Casertana. Even their victories were hard-fought. It’s evident that Conte is still struggling to fully implement his tactical ideas and integrate all the new signings effectively. Furthermore, the long-term injury to Lukaku represents a significant loss. While Lucca has been signed as a replacement, they are fundamentally different types of forwards. I see no compelling reasons for the current Napoli squad to confidently overcome the “green and black” side on their home turf. Therefore, I suggest backing the hosts with a “Handicap +1”.
