Monopoli Football Club is attempting to secure the future of influential defender Mirko Miceli, though Sporting Director Marcello Chiricallo has indicated the club will not place unnecessary obstacles in the player’s path. Miceli, a key figure in the squad, has become a primary target for Catania, an ambitious rival club currently campaigning strongly for promotion to Serie B.
Chiricallo publicly addressed the delicate situation, emphasizing Miceli’s importance to the team beyond his technical skills.
“We are strongly committed to ensuring Mirko remains with us,” Chiricallo explained, “as we view him as both a highly capable and vital player. Crucially, on a human level, he is a foundational figure and a crucial reference point within the squad.”
Despite this strong endorsement, the Monopoli director acknowledged the need to respect the legitimate career aspirations of the player, especially given the circumstances of the external interest.
He concluded: “It is only reasonable to understand the desire of a 34-year-old player who is sought after by a club that is competing directly for promotion to Serie B. It is perfectly normal that he would want to try and fight for that opportunity.”
