Manchester United are reportedly advancing rapidly towards a “final agreement” on personal terms with Auxerre and Mali international Lassine Sinayoko. The versatile forward is scheduled to become a free agent in the summer of 2026, making him a prime target for a pre-contract deal.
The recent narrow 1-0 victory over Newcastle, secured by a superb volley from Patrick Dorgu, underscored the immediate necessity for squad depth at Old Trafford. Despite securing their first clean sheet in ten games, United spent the majority of the second half defending resolutely, with Newcastle registering 16 attempts on goal, while United maintained just 33.4% possession—their lowest figure this season.
Manager Rúben Amorim expressed pride in the team`s spirit, noting that they were forced to “defend sometimes with a back six.” He emphasized that the manner of the win made it highly satisfying, demonstrating a willingness to “suffer together” and win games based on spirit and togetherness, even when not playing optimally.
However, the lack of quality options on the bench reinforced the expectation that the Portuguese manager will be heavily backed by INEOS in the upcoming transfer windows. Amorim`s limited choices against the Magpies saw him introduce teenager Jack Fletcher and the out-of-favor Joshua Zirkzee during the tense final minutes of the match.
According to reports, Manchester United are making “favorable progress” towards finalizing a deal with Auxerre star Sinayoko, who has already netted six times in Ligue 1 this season.
INEOS intends to complete a pre-contract agreement in January, allowing the versatile attacker to join the club next summer as a free agent. The proposed annual salary for the 26-year-old is reported to be €3 million (£2.6 million).
Capable of occupying multiple roles—including central midfield, attacking midfield, on the wing, or up front—Sinayoko`s flexibility could be crucial, especially if captain Bruno Fernandes departs. Fernandes has recently been linked with a move to the Middle East and admitted that the club had previously attempted to sell him, suggesting a potential exit is on the horizon.
Sinayoko is currently starring for Mali at the AFCON tournament, having scored both of their goals so far, extending his scoring streak to four consecutive matches for club and country.
