Betis’ Recent Form and European Ambitions

Manuel Pellegrini’s Betis is a regular participant in European competitions in recent years, a very solid team that last season in La Liga fought for a spot in the top 5 and the Champions League for a long time. However, the “Cucumbers” somewhat faltered towards the end and finished 6th. A decent result, but this season, the green-and-whites, who finally managed to sign Antony permanently (he was on fire in the second half of the season, being loaned from Man Utd), are still slowly getting up to speed.

Key Performance and Squad News

Nevertheless, a victory in the last round of La Liga against Real Sociedad (3-1) should give the Sevillians confidence before the game with Nottingham. The Conference League finalist from last season, against the Basques, exploded after the break and secured their second home victory of the season in the league (they are gradually settling into La Cartuja, as their home ground Benito Villamarín is undergoing renovation). Fornals, Bellerín, Cucho, Lo Celso were magnificent. This provides a positive outlook ahead of the Europa League match against Nottingham, where Bartra, Isco, Llorente, and Deossa will be unavailable for the hosts.

Nottingham Forest’s Current Struggles

After a great season in the Premier League, Forest has been plagued by problems this current season. “The Reds'” coach Nuno fell out with the management and, after 3 opening rounds (with a win, a loss, and a draw), left the team. Ange Postecoglou, the reigning Europa League champion, was tasked with sorting out the mess, but Wood and company are still finding their feet with the Greek-Australian and can’t seem to win.

Recent Results and Team Morale

Following a 0-3 defeat to Arsenal, Nottingham was knocked out of the League Cup by Swansea (losing 2-3 after being 2-0 up), and last weekend, Forest couldn’t hold on to a winning lead at Turf Moor against Burnley (1-1), once again dropping points in the league. The less-than-ideal atmosphere within the team raises concerns about the outcome of the game against the Sevillians. For the visitors, we will not see Ola Aina, Giro-Hutchinson, and Dominguez due to injuries.

Match Prediction and Outlook

For me, Betis is a logical moderate favorite in the betting odds. The advantage of their temporary home ground plays in favor of “the Cucumbers”, as does the fact that the atmosphere in Nottingham, after the departure of last season’s main “creator of successes” Nuno, leaves much to be desired. Postecoglou’s lively football does not lead to the balanced, more effective style that was present under the Portuguese (with Ange, the English have conceded 7 goals in recent games).
