Bayern Munich secured a dramatic 4-1 comeback victory against Cologne in the second round of the DFB Cup. This remarkable win was historic, as it marked the club’s 14th consecutive victory across all competitions since the start of the season—a new record among Europe`s top five leagues.
Cologne 1-4 Bayern Munich
Cologne started the match strongly, creating several promising opportunities before eventually taking the lead. Ragnar Ache successfully headed home Ísak Jóhannesson’s corner kick in the 31st minute, sending the hosts into a deserved early lead.
However, the advantage was short-lived. Bayern responded immediately, with Luis Díaz finding the equalizer just five minutes later. The Bavarians quickly seized control of the game when Harry Kane executed a brilliant turn and shot into the top corner two minutes later, giving Bayern the 2-1 lead heading into halftime.
The second half saw Bayern solidify their dominance. Shortly after the hour mark, Kane scored his second goal of the night, nodding in a Joshua Kimmich corner. The scoring was completed when Michael Olise finished a devastating counter-attack, slotting home a precise square pass from Díaz in the 72nd minute.
Despite a late effort from Cologne substitute Linton Maina, whose powerful shot struck the post, the hosts—known affectionately as the Billy Goats—were ultimately unable to halt Bayern’s perfect run. The reigning Bundesliga champions have now surpassed the previous European record of 13 consecutive opening wins set by AC Milan back in the 1992/93 season, cementing their exceptional start to the current campaign.
