Three years ago, Paraguay and South Korea met in an Asian friendly, where the “Guaraní” led 2-0 thanks to an Almirón brace, only for their opponent to salvage a 2-2 draw in injury time. Since then, South Korea hasn’t shown significant improvement; they still exhibit defensive shortcomings, as their very recent match against Brazil clearly demonstrated. In contrast, Paraguay is a much more organized, structurally solid team, and Alfaro’s squad is experiencing the best period of its resurgence. I am not prepared to consider the hosts as favorites here, given their persistent defensive issues, especially as Paraguay has already acclimatized to Asia and delivered a strong performance against a robust Japan. The visitors could certainly achieve an equally good, if not better, result this time around.
